Registered Nurses in Miami Recognize Prostate Cancer Month

Now that September has arrived, the registered nurses affiliated with our private Nurses Registry wanted to talk about prostate cancer. This year, more than 200,000 people are expected to be diagnosed with the disease and approximately 29,480 of them will die from it. But the news isn’t all grim.

For starters, preventive care is available to those that ask. Men at risk for the disease are encouraged to limit their consumption of processed meats, red meats and high-fat foods while boosting their intake of vegetables, fruits and grains. It’s also recommended that they consider asking their doctors for digital rectal exams and PSA tests. They are two of the methods used to screen for early signs and symptoms of prostate cancer.

In addition to the availability of preventive care, scientists are continuously investigating new treatment methods. The Prostate Cancer Foundation alone has helped championed multiple advancements in the healthcare community’s understanding of the disease. The list of their contributions includes, but is not limited to urine tests designed to detect certain biomarkers and targeted therapies involving DNA repair drugs.

Plus, various forms of patient assistance are readily available to those living with prostate cancer. For example, they may contact our licensed Nurses Registry and hire registered nurses, live-in nurse’s aides, licensed practical nurses, hospital care coordinators, critical care nurses and home care coordinators to assist them as needed.

In many instances, such care is covered wholly, or in part, by assorted forms of insurance. Those prostate cancer patients that do not have insurance coverage may still receive care at home from registered nurses. That’s because Nurses Registries such as ours also accept other forms of reimbursement. Furthermore, there are non-profit agencies in operation today that often provide financial assistance to prostate cancer victims so they may cover costs not paid for by other parties (e.g. CancerCare).
